EmberFree is built to help you quit vaping — not to figure out who you are. You use the app anonymously: no account, no email, no phone number, no real name. This page explains, in plain language, exactly what data the app handles, why, and the choices you have.
EmberFree is a motivational and educational iOS app that helps people quit vaping. It is created and published by Zrionix Technology, INC. Throughout this policy, "we," "us," and "EmberFree" refer to Zrionix Technology, INC.
If you have any privacy question, you can always reach us at support@emberfree.app.
You do not create an account to use EmberFree. There is no sign-up form, no email verification, and no password. On first launch the app quietly asks our backend (Supabase) for an anonymous user ID — a random identifier with no personal information attached. That random ID is how the app remembers your streak and settings the next time you open it.
We never ask for and never collect your real name, email address, phone number, or physical address. In the community, you appear under an anonymous handle generated from your random ID — not a name you type in.
Here is everything the app handles, and the reason for each:
| Data | What it is | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Anonymous user ID | A random identifier issued at first launch (Supabase anonymous auth). No name or email attached. | To keep your progress on your device and in your account across sessions. |
| Streak & check-in events | Your quit date, daily check-ins, and any relapse you log. | To calculate and display your streak, milestones, and progress. |
| Community posts | Text you choose to post to the community, shown under your anonymous handle. | To power the peer-support feed. Posting is optional. |
| AI coach messages | The chat messages you send to the in-app craving coach. | To generate a supportive reply (see section 6). Sending a message is optional. |
| Subscription status | Whether you have an active trial or paid subscription (a status flag — not card details). | To unlock paid features and manage your subscription. |
| Product-interaction analytics | Anonymous events like "screen viewed," "check-in completed," or "paywall viewed," plus a few properties tied to your anonymous ID and an app-generated device identifier: the onboarding details you choose (approximate weekly spend, device type, number of triggers) and your streak length and premium status. | To understand which features help and to improve the app. |
| Reminders & notifications | Optional local reminders (daily check-in, milestone, and re-engagement nudges), scheduled on your device only if you allow notifications. The reminder content stays on-device. | To gently help you protect your streak. You can turn notifications off anytime in iOS Settings. |
We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, health-sensor or fitness data, or advertising identifiers. This version of the app does not collect crash or performance diagnostics — crash reporting is not active in EmberFree v1.0.
To run the app we rely on a small set of trusted service providers ("subprocessors"). Each receives only what it needs to do its job, and none of them are allowed to use your data for their own advertising.
| Provider | Role | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Backend & database | Your anonymous ID, streak/check-in/relapse events, community posts, and your subscription/purchase status (product, store, and expiry — no card details). |
| PostHog | Product analytics | Anonymous product-interaction events and properties (see section 3), tied to your anonymous ID and an app-generated device identifier. IP-based geolocation is turned off. |
| RevenueCat | Subscription management | Your anonymous ID, a device identifier, and subscription/purchase status. No card details. |
| Apple | Payments & App Store | Handles your purchase and payment method directly. We never see your card. |
| xAI (Grok) | AI chat replies | The chat messages you send to the coach, to generate a reply (see section 6). |
The craving coach is optional. When you send it a message, that message (and the recent conversation, for context) is sent from our backend to xAI, the company behind the Grok model, purely to generate a single supportive reply that comes back to you.
We keep your data for as long as you use EmberFree, so your streak and history are there when you come back. Your progress also lives locally on your device. When you delete your data (section 8), it is permanently erased from our backend and removed from your device — this cannot be undone.
Analytics events in PostHog are retained under that provider's standard retention and are tied only to your anonymous ID.
Because the app is anonymous, you control your data directly from your phone:
In Settings → Export my data, the app gathers your core records — your anonymous ID and handle, your profile, all your streak events, and your own community posts — into a single JSON file you can save or share. Other records tied to your anonymous ID, such as your subscription status and analytics events, can be requested any time by emailing us.
In Settings → Delete my account & data, the app permanently erases your account and all associated data from our backend and wipes it from your device, returning the app to a fresh start. This is permanent and cannot be reversed.
You may also email support@emberfree.app with any request or question about your data.
Data in transit is protected with industry-standard encryption (HTTPS/TLS). Access to backend data is restricted by row-level security so your records are tied to your anonymous session, and secrets such as our AI provider key are held server-side and never shipped in the app. No system is perfectly secure, but we design to minimize what we collect in the first place — the less we hold, the less there is to protect.
EmberFree is intended for adults 18 and older, and the app presents an age gate on first launch. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has used the app, contact us and we will address it.
EmberFree is operated by Zrionix Technology, INC from the United States. If you use the app from outside the U.S., your data will be processed in the U.S. and in the regions where our subprocessors operate. We share the same short set of practices with everyone, wherever you are.
Lawful basis. We process your data to provide the app and the features you ask for (performance of our terms with you), and, for anonymous product analytics, on the basis of our legitimate interest in understanding and improving the app while keeping data minimal and non-identifying.
Your rights. You have the right to access, correct, export (portability), and erase your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise access, export, and erasure yourself at any time using the in-app Export and Delete tools (section 8), or by emailing us. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Because we hold your data only under a random anonymous ID, we may be unable to identify you outside the app itself.
We do not sell your personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. You have the right to know what we collect (described above), to request a copy, and to request deletion — all available directly through the in-app Export and Delete tools, or by contacting us. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
EmberFree is a motivational and educational tool. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. The AI coach offers supportive, general encouragement, not professional care. For medical concerns about nicotine dependence or your health, please consult a qualified healthcare provider.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will provide a more prominent notice in the app. Continuing to use EmberFree after an update means you accept the revised policy.
